9:00am- Pop into U.S. Army Transportation Museum!

Visit the U.S. Army Transportation Museum that features the history of Army’s transportation corps. The museum includes transport equipments, miniature models, trains, helicopters, jeeps, full-size armored vehicles, horse-drawn wagons, tugboats, locomotives, experimental crafts, and other memorabilia of U.S. Army Transportation.

10:00am-Tour Endview Plantation for Architecture and American History!

For a varied history of America, visit one of the area’s well-maintained plantations- the Endview Plantation. The Endview Plantation is an eighteenth century plantation that provides a peep into bygone era. This site has witness the 1812 War, the Civil War and the Revolutionary War.  Inside, take a look at the 18th century period pieces on display. It has an exhibition gallery, gift shop, and several special events are held all year-round. Civil War reenactments are held with replica weapons and uniformed soldiers. Walk in and out of the grounds and peek into the old cabins where soldiers stayed during war. This spot provides a glance into the site’s rich and diverse history!

11:00am-Discover mid-19th century history at Lee Hall Mansion!

For some more history, make your way over to the Lee Hall Mansion that features showcases the story of the wealthy people who lived in the area during the 1850s. It is an antebellum home that was built during mid-19th century by Richard Decauter Lee, a wealthy planter of Warwick County. The mansion includes furnished period rooms, Civil War exhibits and other memorabilia. It has been used during the Peninsula Campaign as headquarters of Confederate Major General Magruder's.

12:00pm- Saunter through the Newport News Park!

Next, take a relaxed walk in the Newport News Park, which is the second largest city park in the nation. Enjoy an afternoon of fishing, archery, paddleboat rides, golf, biking, hands-on activities, historical artifacts or strolls. The park features several lakes, natural woodlands, meadows, picnic shelters, floral gardens, a disc golf course, a 5-mile bike trail, 30 miles of hiking trails, fresh water reservoirs, and a horse show arena. Native wildlife can be found within the meadows and woodlands. A perfect spot to have a family fun time!

By now, you‘ve surely worked up an appetite, it’s time for lunch!

2:00pm-Virginia Living Museum is where to discover Virginia’s natural heritage from the sea to mountains!

Now that you’ve fed you body as well as your mind, again start your 1-day tour by visiting the Virginia Living Museum. The museum features indoor and outdoor exhibits, a planetarium, over 250 native species of plants and animals, a conservation garden, a living greenhouse, an outdoor boardwalk and a observatory.  Stroll on the boardwalk, and catch a glimpse of a living replica of an Appalachian mountain cave, a Cypress Swamp, several sea creatures living in the local waters, and native animals including foxes, raccoons, wild alligators, otters, deer and more.

3:00pm-Soak up some maritime history at The Mariners Museum!

Next, visit the Mariners Museum that features over 35,000 interesting artifacts. It is one of the world’s largest maritime museums. Learn about the boats, sea, ships and nautical history of more than 3,000 years. It is home to USS Monitor Center that features artifacts from the Civil War ironclad, including a revolving gun turret. Do drop by the International Small Craft Center that holds watercrafts from all corners of the world. Stop by the maritime-themed gift shop that has items ranging from toys to t-shirts and books.  Shop for historic souvenirs! This museum provides a peek into the maritime history!

4:00pm- Art and Cultural Excursion at Peninsula Fine Arts Center!

Unleash your inner artists at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center. The center features a rotating art exhibits by contemporary local and regional artists. Marvel at the pieces of artwork of different genres.  It also houses a hands-on kid’s gallery for children, a studio art school and several educational.

Head off to the City Center at Oyster Point that is an open-air shopping spot boasting a variety of shops.
